Opinion: College admissions should still be random

Should college admissions be more selective than random? No, they should still be random.

This is because the college admissions process deals not only with your transcript but with the school’s supplemental essays.

Supplemental essays and your main application essays are key. Supplemental essays are the essays that the school gives you to write.

These essays give you a chance to show your personality to the college admissions committee. As well, some of these supplemental essays are fun topics, for example, Stanford University has one on “What 5 words best describe you?” Yale University has one on “You are teaching a Yale course. What is it called?”.
