For all soccer fans, this week has been full of excitement and horror. During the first half of a game between Denmark and Finland on June 14, Denmark Midfielder Christan Eriksen went into Cardiac arrest.

Players formed a shield around Eriksen as medical officials were working to bring him back to life.

“He was gone, and we did cardiac resuscitation,” Denmark Team Doctor Morten Boesen said about Eriksen in a news conference. “We got him back after one defibrillator, so that’s quite fast.”

Eriksen, who is currently in the hospital, released his first public message since the incident.

“Big thanks for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all around the world,” Erikson said on social media on June 15. “It means a lot to me and my family. I’m fine — under the circumstances. I still have to go through some examinations at the hospital, but I feel okay. Now, I will cheer on the boys on the Denmark team in the next matches.”

Denmark’s next game is against Russia on Monday, June 21, at noon.
