Preparing for the next chapter

With the upcoming basketball season, Casey Gilles ‘18 plans to avenge the Jesuit High School Varsity team’s loss to Folsom High School in the 2016 – 2017 playoffs. It starts with the practices, which are serious but very enjoyable. Jesuit’s disciplined offense and confidence in their coaches is key to success, and will have a big part in the upcoming season.

Casey’s love for basketball began at a young age.

“I’ve been playing since basketball since kindergarten, for about 12 years,” Casey said.

On his grade school court, he played various games such as knockout, one vs. one, and two vs. two that familiarized him with the ball.  Now playing point guard and shooting guard, Casey sees himself as “more of a crafty player than a run-people-over guy.”

Casey thinks that the team needs to play more aggressive to succeed next year. On the other hand, he said that the team strengths are that “anyone on [his] team can knock down the three at any time” and they are all very competitive and want to win.

To Casey however, the sport is not just about competing to win, but having a good time and working hard to achieve what he desires to achieve with his teammates. Through Jesuit basketball, Casey has made many long lasting friendships that he will hold to, even after he no- longer plays for Jesuit.
