Jesuit football prepares to face Central Catholic in second round of playoffs
In the second round of the Division II Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs, the No. 4 seeded Jesuit High School Marauders will host the No. 5 seeded Central Catholic High School Raiders this Saturday, Nov. 16.
Jesuit, who had a first-round bye, finished the regular season with a 4-2 record in the Delta League. CCHS had a 5-1 record in the Valley Oak League and is coming off a 58-14 win over No. 12 seeded Tracy High School in the first round.
Heading into the game, lineman Carsen Keim ’21 believes the key to success is for everyone to do their job.
“We have to know all of our assignments and be more physical,” Carsen said. “We feel if we do that, we can have a great game.”
Jesuit’s players, coaches, and students are all extremely excited for the Marauders’ first playoff game of the year, and this fact has not escaped Head Coach Marlon Blanton’s notice.
“We have been focusing on having a solid practice week, staying true to our assignment and having fun,” Coach Blanton said. “I want them to value this time they get to spend with each other.”
Helping to ensure the quality of Jesuit’s practice is defensive end and tight end Keleki Latu ’21, who thinks that making sure that everyone is contributing is vital to success on Saturday.
“When we are on the field, my teammates and I tell the sophomores to go out on scout and help get us a look for the upcoming game,” Keleki said. “And when they are confused, I would talk to them on why they messed up and how they can correct it.”
Coming off of a first-round bye, Jesuit is hungry for their first of potentially many victories in this year’s playoffs. The kickoff to the game is at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Jesuit.
