Six Jesuit High School seniors made their college commitments official by accepting scholarships and signing athletic letters of intent the morning of Nov. 13 in the Fr. Barry Gymnasium.

Fall Signing Day is the early period to sign for basketball players and the usual time for all other sports besides football.

The athletes who signed were soccer players Cole Barrett ’20 (Saint Mary’s College of California) and Chris Meyers ’20 (University of Washington), baseball players Daniel Susac ’20 (The University of Arizona), Charlie Hurley ’20 (University of Southern California), and Luke Williams ’20 (UC Santa Barbara), and lacrosse player Dominic Atwell ’20 (The University of Utah).

Before each student signed, Jesuit President Fr. John McGarry, S.J., thanked the athletes for their hard work and dedication.

“Thank you for always striving to be student athletes of character,” Fr. McGarry said. “Thank you for using the talents you’ve been given and for committing yourself to being the best person you can be.”

After signing to play soccer after high school, Chris Meyers plans to give as much effort as he can at the collegiate level.

“I hope to achieve as much as I can,” Chris said. “I’ve been given a great opportunity, and I don’t want to waste it, so I’m going to give it all I’ve got. Some goals I have for when I get there are to contribute right from the start and to become an important part of the team.”

Administrative Assistant to the Athletics Department Ms. Robin Cummings offered advice to the signing athletes.

“I would say to stay grounded,” Ms. Cummings said. “Enter into your college experience striving for excellence in all you do. Always strive to be the best you can be.”

With soccer around the corner and spring sports beginning in February, each athlete is looking to make an impact in their final high school seasons.
