Holy Court rivalry

Standing at 18-4, the Jesuit High School Varsity Basketball Team are riding high into a Feb. 3rd matchup against their arch-rivals, the Christian Brothers High School Falcons.

The Falcons, at 9-9, have had an up and down season thus far, but nonetheless pose an important challenge for the Marauders.

The Christian Brothers Varsity Basketball Team is led by Senior big-man Everett Perrot (15 PPG) and Senior guard Andre Albaso (13 PPG). They have played well as of late, winning three out of their last four games.

Jesuit, backed by Elias King ‘18 and electric guard Jake Virga ‘18, have raced out to a 7-2 record in Delta League play. Although Marauders are favored to win this game, they must stay disciplined and focused to secure a victory.

“If we play good team ball and play to our strengths, then we should win,” said Jake.

Elias, a senior transfer from Christian Brothers, has played exceedingly well in his first eight games this season, averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds.Every matchup between Jesuit and Christian Brothers is a spirited battle, with players and fans alike both deeply invested in the rivalry. This particular matchup should prove no different.

Virga, a three year-veteran of this matchup, knows this intensity all too well.

“There is always a lot of emotion surrounding this game with great competition and a little bit of hostility brought forth from both crowds,” said Jake.

Elias’s transfer has added an intensity to this year’s matchup, as the Falcons team and fans will likely be fired up to play against him.

After a raucous showing at the Rio game, another game of massive Galley Crew support will be vital to support the team and Elias especially.

“With Elias’s transfer we know that there will be a huge target on his and our backs, and having the Galley Crew supporting us will be critical,” said Virga.

The non-conference matchup will be hosted in the Fr. Barry Gymnasium at Jesuit High School on Saturday, February 3rd at 6 PM.
