Get up and Run

Last year, Jesuit High School Cross Country team finished as league and section champions, adding two more accolades to an already crowded trophy case. This year’s team hopes to add to that success.

Many of last season’s accomplishments can be attributed to a strong group of graduating Seniors, leaving this year’s team with notable roles to fill.

“This year’s team, the difference is we are very young in terms of our top runners,” said Assistant Cross Country Coach Mr. Dave Zielke. “We really only have one senior that is back from last year’s top group, the rest are pretty new.”

Despite their relative youth, this year’s runners and coaches remain confident that they can replicate last year’s success.

“Individually, I want to win state,” said Matt Strangio ’20. “For the team, I want to win top five at the state meet.”

The team knows that in order to experience the same level of success, they will have to work hard to earn victories.

“I like Matt’s idea of top five at state, win the section; I think we can do both of those things,” said David Vincent ‘18. “I do think we have potential to finish top five in the state, but it’s going to take some work.”

This year’s cross country team is certainly worth watching as they look to continue the success of Jesuit in the sport.
