Jesuit runs to victory

Last Friday Oct. 28, the Jesuit High School Marauders ran in their league championship cross country meet. Both Frosh/Soph and Varsity Jesuit teams won their respective races, despite the wet and muddy condition of the course.

In addition to the league title, six Jesuit runners won prestigious All-League honors.

The Frosh/Soph race was run in a light rain. The Jesuit top seven – Talon Krieger ‘20, Caelin Sutch ‘20, Colin Brannan ‘19, Russell Kustic ‘19, Todd Russell ‘19, Robert Canalas ‘19 and Steven Noll ‘19 – won the race, defeating Davis High School by a large margin. Jesuit scored 25, in comparison to 68 by the Davis Blue Devils.

For the Varsity competition, the team won by a slimmer margin. All five of their scorers placed in the top ten. Ben Holland ‘17 placed second, Nicholas Salonites ‘20 placed third, The Plank’s Colin Ryan ‘19 placed fifth, Robert Bell ‘17 placed seventh, and Miles Worthen ‘19 placed Ninth. Brendan Jones ‘17 and Patrick Caslin ‘17 rounded out the top seven at 11 and 18. The top six Marauders received patches for their performances.

“Our team did quite well and though not everyone had their best races, we were still able to pull off the win,” said Ben. “With this in mind, I have a lot of confidence that our team will be able a top contender for the section championship coming up and eventually, the state meet.”

The team now looks ahead to the subsection race in Angels Camp.
