Hoping to defend its 2015 Varsity Delta League champion title, the Jesuit High School Cross Country team will compete with nine other teams in the Delta League Championship Meet on Friday, October 28, at Granite Regional Park.

While the Marauders’ varsity team runners are looking to defend their title, the frosh-soph team seeks to earn theirs, after being beaten narrowly by Davis last year. Despite having multiple runners injured, both teams are planning to win.

“I like where we’re at,” said Coach David Zielke. “ We have some injury problems right now, but fortunately we have enough guys that are running well that […] represent the school pretty well, and hopefully garner two league championships this week.”

The course, Granite Regional, is very familiar to the both teams.

They have run two meets there this season, both of which the Jesuit varsity team won. However, there is a 40% chance of rain the day of the meet, which will drastically change the conditions on the course. The teams, though, remain undaunted.

“Everybody runs in the rain,” said Coach Zielke “So it really shouldn’t have an effect at all. In fact, if you go into it with the right attitude it can be to your advantage.”
