Plank Editors, Bryant and William, talk to prospective students at Open House.

This past Sunday Jesuit High School hosted its annual Open House, which allows middle school students from across the Sacramento area to gain a brief insight into what Jesuit is all about. The hope is for prospective students to gain an understanding of Jesuit life and activities through campus tours and numerous co-curricular displays.

“[The purpose of Open House is for] families to get firsthand knowledge of who we are as a school,” said Mr. Josh Palone, the Director of Admissions.

This year’s Open House gave the families freedom to explore all things Jesuit.

Speeches by Jesuit’s Principal Mr. Michael Wood ‘99 and President Fr. Suwalsky, S.J. welcomed families and made them feel like a part of the Jesuit community.

Although the rain provided the tour guides with an additional obstacle, they still accomplished their goal of providing the families with a sense of belonging at Jesuit’s campus.

In the Fr. Barry Gym, Jesuit’s academic departments and many co-curricular programs had table displays introducing future Marauders to Jesuit’s offerings.

“I think Open House gives Jesuit the ability to demonstrate to the students who we are,” said Emmanuel Simon ‘17, who was representing the Students for Life Club in the gym.

Regardless of which tours they took, which speakers they listened to, or which activities caught their interest, all of the families who visited Jesuit’s Open House left with, in the words of Mr. Palone, “excitement for what they can become at Jesuit.”
