Marauders take on the Herd
The Jesuit High School Marauders’ Varsity Football team, undefeated in Delta League play, will take on Elk Grove High School (4-1) in the Jesuit Homecoming game Saturday, October 8. The Marauders are coming off a 26-16 win at Davis last week and are looking to improve their record to 5-1 this season.
Last season, Elk Grove defeated Jesuit 63-14, but the Marauders are seeking to change things this year.
“We’re pretty confident” said Quarterback Calvin Brownholtz ‘17. “We’ll just play our game, and if we listen to our coaches, we should come off with a W (win).”
Brownholtz said last week’s win over Davis was his best passing game of the season, and he hopes to continue to improve against the Thundering Herd.
Jesuit will need both a strong offense and defense in order to deal with Elk Grove, which is averaged at 39 points per game this season. The Herd’s one loss this season came against Davis in week four. Jesuit went on to defeat Davis 26-16, while Elk Grove went on to defeat the Grant High School Pacers 24-17.
This game marks Jesuit’s homecoming, raising the question, how much pressure is the team feeling?
“None,” said Head Varsity Football Coach Marlon Blanton. “[But Elk Grove is] a very high scoring team. They’re tough, they’re physical, they’re gritty. They’re going to be tough.”
Blanton hopes to repeat the Marauders’ 2014 success against the herd, defeating them 42-38.
Kickoff is at 1:00 PM this Saturday at Hanson McClain Advisors Stadium.
