Jesuit takes on the Eagles

On Friday, Sept. 23 at Sheldon High School, the Jesuit High School Varsity Football Team will take on Pleasant Grove High School at 7:15pm in a neutral conference game.

The Pleasant Grove Eagles are still looking to clinch their first win, with a current 0-3 record in the preseason. Jesuit, with a 2-1 preseason record, is not letting the fact that the Eagles are winless getting in the way of how they practice.

“We don’t look at the records, we play our hardest every game we play, and we don’t take a team easy,” said free safety Jake Vassar ‘17. “Our gameplan is playing our best and carrying out our system so we can achieve our goal of section champs.”

Jesuit has had plenty of time to practice for the game this Friday night. Last week, the Marauders had a bye week and have utilized that time to prepare for Pleasant Grove and the rest of the season.

“We didn’t necessarily use our bye week to prepare for Pleasant Grove, but rather to improve ourselves as a team,” said kicker Matthew Blake ‘17. “We used the week to fine tune our game so that we can perform and execute our system to the best of our abilities in the upcoming weeks.”

The Marauders are focusing on repetition and perfecting execution. They believe in themselves and that practice will lead them to victory.

“We need to work on our effort in practice, and also on our execution,” Jake said. “We know our system works, and we just have to trust it and what our coaches are teaching us. If we can execute our system correctly and play our hardest, we will be a very successful football team.”

Make sure to come out this Friday night to cheer on your fellow Marauders.
