Sending the Grizzlies into hibernation

Last Friday, the Jesuit High School Marauders won 28-10 in their season opener against their non-conference rival, the Granite Bay High School Grizzlies. The victory avenged last year’s loss to the Grizzlies.

In the first quarter, the Grizzlies put the first points on the scoreboard with a field goal, but the Marauders responded with a 51 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Calvin Brownholtz ‘17 to wide receiver Jonathan Amadi ‘17.

Catching a quick pass to the left, wide receiver Jayme Thomas ‘17 then scored on a 10 yard touchdown in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, running back Jason Gallagher ‘18, punched in a one yard touchdown. The Grizzlies responded with a four yard touchdown run.

However, the Marauders clinched the win with a 13 yard touchdown run from running back Isaiah Rutherford ‘19.

Calvin finished the day with 180 passing yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions.

“I was extremely confident and excited knowing the Galley Crew would be in full force and had no doubt we would beat [the Grizzlies],” Calvin said.

With a strong victory in the first game of the season, the team is optimistic that they will have a successful season this year.

“Our goal is to win the section championship and I think our team has the potential to do so, but we have to keep up the hard work every week if we want to continue to play well,” Jayme said.
The Marauders (1-0), will now prepare for this Friday’s game against the Folsom High School Bulldogs (1-0). The Bulldogs won their opening game against Coeur d’Alene High School from Idaho, 55-36 in a non-league game.
