Holding off the Red Devils

On March 28 the Jesuit High School Marauders took on the University High School Red Devils in an extremely competitive lacrosse game.

The Marauders started the game off strong and were up by five goals going into halftime. It looked as if Jesuit would be able to win the game from this position.

University had another idea, however, and the Red Devils came out from halftime full of energy to make up for their poor first half performance.

After the third quarter, Jesuit still had a five goal lead, but in the fourth quarter University put a lot of pressure on the marauders. The Red Devils scored seven goals in the final quarter, but did not manage to close the gap as Jesuit held on to win by a final score of 11 to 10.

“We started out pretty fast, 5-6 goal lead into the first half. We got a little ahead of ourselves in the third and let them back. We all worked hard and fought for each other, keeping our cool, working through the pressure,” said senior Parker Bell.

Jesuit improves their record to 6-1 on the season (1-0 in league play), whereas University falls to 8-2 on the season (1-0 in league play).

“The team played outstanding in the first three quarters. In the fourth quarter we fell apart a little bit; University got off a few quick goals, but luckily we had gotten enough of a lead to hold on,” said senior Kyle Jacobs.

The Marauders will get a nice break before their next game on April 7 against Santa Margarita High School at Jesuit, where they hope to play a strong four quarters.
