A rough loss
The Jesuit High School Marauders took on the Franklin High School Wildcats in a basketball game on Feb. 11 that had a dramatic ending.
Franklin came out on top in double overtime by a score of 105-104.
The game ended with a game winning layup by one of Franklin’s forwards after a missed free throw by Jesuit’s senior guard Isaiah Bailey.
Regulation was a hard fought battle that ended up 87-87 at the end of the fourth quarter.
The game was dominated by Isaiah and senior point guard Austin Plaat.
Isaiah went off for 40 points on 13-31 shooting along with 6 rebounds, while Austin poured in 23 points on 10-23 shooting.
Entering the fourth quarter, the Marauders were down 67-62, when Austin took over the quarter to close the deficit and send the game into overtime.
In overtime, Isaiah took control. Every time that Franklin would score, he would come back and drive the lane to make either a tough shot or get to the free throw line.
The problem for the Marauders was not on the offensive side of the ball, but on the defensive.
“It was a rough loss, we had them the whole time, but nobody stepped up defensively to stop their scorers,” said senior Michael Beachley about the heartbreaking loss.
Defensively, the Marauders will need to tighten up if they want to make a run at the section championship, as they allowed the Wildcats to shoot 57% from the field.
Offensively the Marauders can keep up with anyone, and with a tighter defense they can match up with any team in the area. They were even with the Wildcats all game, going shot for shot every time down the floor.
The Marauders will look to buckle down on defense and keep their offense up as the season starts to wind down.
