Deciding the Delta League
In a game featuring the two best football teams in the Delta League, fans should be excited as Jesuit High School takes on Sheldon High School this Saturday at Hanson McClain Stadium at 1 p.m.
The winner of the game will claim first place in the Delta League standings, making this a crucial game for both teams.
The Sheldon Huskies are slight favorites as they have a 7-1 overall record and a 4-0 record versus Delta League opponents. The Huskies have a seven-game win streak after defeating Pleasant Grove.
Jesuit enters the game with a 6-2 overall record and a 4-0 record against Delta League opponents. The Marauders have not lost since losing their first two games of the season.
In order to defeat Sheldon, Jesuit will need to be prepared. Running back Isaiah Rutherford ’19 believes his teammates will be ready for their tough opponent.
“We practice hard and watch lots of film the entire week before game day,” said Isaiah.
Rather than focusing on the opponent, Jesuit quarterback Hank Harvego ’19 doesn’t care about who he’s going up against, but rather just on making his teammates better.
“My job is to make sure we play our best game, regardless of the opponent,” said Hank. “It should be an exciting game. This is the Delta League Championship, so it should be fun. We look forward to competing!”
Sheldon may prove to be the Marauders’ toughest opponent since their opening game against perennial powerhouse Folsom High School. Defensive Backs Coach Isaiah Frey ’08 believes the team will rise to the challenge.
“I expect our guys to come out and compete to win. This is a big game for us so we have to leave everything out on the field,” said Coach Frey.
Jesuit is determined to take the top spot in the Delta league and head into the playoffs strong. To defeat Sheldon, the Marauders will need the help of the Galley Crew.
