The Jesuit High School Varsity Football Team, now Delta League Champions, faced off against the Grant Union High School Pacers last Friday in a spectacular match to close the regular season. This was the last conference game for Jesuit before playoffs, where they will attempt to win the Sac-Joaquin Section Title.

Having beaten the Pacers 23-17 and secured an undefeated league record, the Marauders look to keep rolling as their first playoff game approaches. The team hopes to continue their win streak through the postseason.

“We hope to go very deep [into playoffs], continue our win streak, and win our Section Championship,” said tight end and linebacker Laiatu Latu ‘19.

After playing well on both sides of the ball against the Pacers, the team is confident that they can pick up their first playoff win of the 2017 postseason this Saturday, Nov. 11, against Modesto High School. Their strong season came at a cost, however, in the form of injured players.

“For the playoffs, we need many people to step into bigger roles due to the injuries we’ve had this year,” said wide receiver and defensive back Spencer Vigil ‘19. “We have to be very disciplined and practice hard. We’ve had to adopt the ‘next man up’ mantra and it will need to continue if we want to go deep [into playoffs].”

The team has been preparing relentlessly for their postseason match-ups in the hope that a Section Title lies ahead.

“I believe the most special moments for us are yet to come,” said Spencer.

As the regular season wraps up and the postseason begins, the Jesuit Football Team looks ahead in their attempt to win a Section Title.
