For Jesuit High School alumni, the saying “actions speak louder than words” is more than just a phrase; it is a lifestyle. Such a claim is easily proven with Jesuit’s very own Mr. Vincent Fleming ‘02.

During his time at Jesuit, Mr. Fleming golfed, played basketball, and made lifelong friends. He planned on attending The University of Massachusetts Boston to study cardiology upon graduation from Jesuit.

Those plans changed after the events of Sept. 11, 2001. Mr. Fleming felt a burning desire to take action in defense of our nation. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army as an Airborne Ranger, choosing the Rangers because of the challenging training and their assignment to combat zones.

Mr. Fleming spent ten years in the ranger battalions and went on multiple tours in the Middle East. In addition to his combat tours, his military career took him all over the world and to each of the seven continents.

Throughout his military career, Mr. Fleming found that the ideals that he learned at Jesuit helped him to work with all sorts of people in many different types of situations.

“The idea of selfless service enabled me to efficiently collaborate with a variety of individuals,”  Mr. Fleming said. “The knowledge and life skills I developed at Jesuit shaped every interaction that I had.”

After his ten years of service, Mr. Fleming got out of the Army and put his military skills to use in civilian life as a paramedic and firefighter.

Now that Mr. Fleming has settled down and started a family, he has returned to Jesuit as a basketball coach, designated prefect, and JUG monitor. He is currently studying Psychology in order to earn his PhD and become a student counselor at Jesuit.

Mr. Fleming is a perfect example of Jesuit ideals in action, as seen through his life choices, actions and selfless service to this country. Mr. Vincent Fleming is a true Man for Others.
