Jesuit takes on the Huskies at home
Last Friday night, the Jesuit High School Varsity Basketball team lost at home to Sheldon High School 60-62. The Marauders dropped to a record of 19-4 while the Huskies advanced to 17-4.
The game was high scoring. Both teams scored 19 points each in the first quarter and 16 points in the second, making the halftime score 35-35. Sheldon outscored Jesuit 16 to 12 in the third quarter. Although, Jesuit edged out the Huskies, 13 points to 11, in the fourth, the recovery was simply not enough to come back.
“I am extremely proud of the team’s effort. We believed in ourselves, in each other, and showed a lot of courage. These guys are able to stick together when adversity hits, and that is something that we love about this group,” said Head Varsity Basketball Coach Jon Rotz ‘92.
Despite the tough loss, the players and coaches were pleased with the overall effort against Sheldon.
“I thought that we had great team effort throughout the game, whether it was from the bench or on the court all of the guys were competing to their max potential,” said Forward George Manikas ‘17.
As the Marauders prepare to play Franklin on February 10th on the road, the team has specific improvements to focus on in practice.
“Franklin is a big, strong, and physical team who plays very hard and is well coached. We need to control their dribble penetration and rebound. That will be our primary focus in practice,” Coach Rotz said.
Make sure to come out and support the Marauders tonight at Franklin at 7 p.m. as they look to advance to 20-4.
