Marauders earn second shutout
The Jesuit Marauders slid back into the top 20 rankings, at number 18, after they shutout Sheldon High School, 36-0 last Friday night.
After a 3-and-out on their first drive, the Marauder offense scored the first touchdown of the game. Lorenzo Burkes ‘18 punched in an 11 yard touchdown on the ground, after deflecting five Huskie defenders.
Middle linebacker Myles Goudreau ‘17 intercepted a pass on the next Huskie drive, setting up the Marauders for a 1st and goal on the SHS 3 yard-line.
On 4th down, Lorenzo Burkes ‘18 earned his second touchdown with a 1 yard run into the endzone.
On the ensuing drive the Marauders recovered a Sheldon fumble, which set up their offense up for another touchdown. Dalvin Jamal-Milton scored a rushing touchdown from 3 yards out.
The Marauder offense scored two more touchdowns in the second half, quarterback Calvin Brownholtz ‘17 and running back Lucas Thayer ‘16 were responsible for the two rushing scores.
“The offense has struggled these last few games, so it felt really good to hit a rhythm, and score 36 points in a league matchup.” said quarterback Calvin Brownholtz ‘17.
Jesuit’s defense earned their second shutout of the season against Sheldon holding them scoreless. It was their first shutout since their week 2 matchup against Yuba City High School in the home opener, when they defeated the Honkers 40-0.
“This defense works really well together, and we were extremely proud of our second shutout of the season” said safety Christian Dyer ‘16.
The Jesuit defense forced two interceptions and two fumbles, which they recovered, to help ensure a shutout against the Huskies.
This Saturday Jesuit (18) will host the Franklin High School Wildcats (9) at 1 P.M., looking to keep their playoff hopes alive.
