Marauders drop the thunder

October 10th the Jesuit High School Marauders took on The Elk Grove High School Thundering Herd in a thriller at Levi Stadium. It was a great opportunity for the Jesuit Marauders to play on the new Levi Stadium field, home of the San Francisco 49ers.

Jesuit started the game with a huge catch by senior wide receiver Isaiah Bailey, leading to the first touchdown off a 1 yard run by junior Beau Bisharat. Before Jesuit scored their second touchdown, the punt by Elk Grove was muffed and led to a turnover on downs. The second touchdown was a run by senior Denzel Perkins, making the score 14-0 Jesuit. Elk Grove scored before the end of the 1st quarter, making the score 14-7 Jesuit.

Elk Grove started the second quarter with a touchdown, making the two teams tied 14-14. Jesuit took back possession on their own 13 yard line but then fumbled the ball at the 13 yard line, turning it over to Elk Grove. Jesuit’s defense prevented Elk Grove from getting into the end-zone, causing The Thundering Herd to kick a field goal, which they missed. Jesuit gained possession back and Beau broke out for a 45 yard run to the the 10 yard line. That run lead to a touchdown by senior Luke Bagley which made the score 21-14, giving Jesuit the lead going into the half.

Jesuit started the second half on defense and forced a punt, taking possession of the ball. During the 3rd quarter Cole had a beautiful throw to Luke for a touchdown, making the score 28-14 in favor of Jesuit. Elk Grove scored after Jesuit, but missed the extra point leaving the score 28-20. Jesuit regained possession, but fumbled the ball leading to another turnover. Jesuit received an interception after their turnover, which led to another touchdown for the Marauders. The 3rd quarter ended with Jesuit leading by 15.

In the fourth quarter, Elk Grove started with the ball and scored within the first couple minutes, making the score 35-27 with Jesuit still leading. After the kickoff to Jesuit, the ball was fumbled again, leading to another touchdown by the Thundering Herd. Jesuit struggled to hold onto the ball throughout the game, having three turnovers. The score was 35-33 Jesuit, but Elk Grove went for the two point conversion and succeeded in making the score 35-35. Elk Grove took the ball back and scored a field goal, taking the lead for the first time with six minutes left in the game. After the kickoff, Cole handed the ball to Beau for a touchdown, which brought the Marauders back up on top 42-38. The game ended with Cole kneeling the ball in victory formation. A great win for Jesuit’s football team.
