Meters in the making

On Friday, Mar. 31, and Saturday, April 1, the top Jesuit High School track and field athletes  competed at the 42nd Annual Stanford Invitational Track Meet.

Eight Marauders competed individually in the meet. In the 100 meters, Diego Gallardo ‘17 placed 17th and Isaiah Rutherford ‘19 placed 22nd. Newtan Quinlan ‘20 got 25th in the 400 meters. Ben Holland ‘17 placed fifth and Matt Strangio ‘20 placed ninth in the 3000 meters. In the throws, Sebastian Garcia ‘18 placed fifth and Jack Murphy ‘17 placed ninth in the discus. Jack Murphy placed sixth in the shot put and Ricky White ‘17 placed tenth in the same event.  

Along with the eight individuals, the Marauders also had two relay teams compete. The first competed in the four by 100, which got tenth. The other relay team ran in the four by 400, and placed 26th.

The entries for this meet show that the Jesuit’s track program will be strong in the future, as three of the athletes accepted into this elite field are underclassmen.
